You are a journalist investigating an abandoned research facility, intrigued by rumors suggesting that the facility was used to study the paranormal. As you descend, you will navigate the unknown, unveiling the dark past left in the depths of this facility. You will have to survive the horrors within and learn the true nature of... 'The Descent'.
This game followed an interesting task : Design a game based on a randomly generated GPT prompt which said, “The Descent is a horror video game that combines 3D platforming and roguelike mechanics. The game is set in an abandoned research facility, where players must navigate through a series of randomized levels while fighting off horrifying creatures and avoiding traps.”
Based on this my work as the Lead Designer was :
Designed a multi level system with procedural generation to offer players a unique playthrough each time. The design consisted of each level having a 6 room palette to generate a random 12 room path.
Designed boss enemy and 3 unique enemy types with distinct attack patters appearing in a different manner each time combined with the PCG level. This offers the players replayability and unique and unexpected encounters in each run.
White-boxed the 6 room palettes for the artist and technical lead to work on.
Designed a weapon system ( 2 melee + 1 ranged) with different stats to offer unique combat experiences with 3 unique enemy classes each with different attack patterns.
Worked with the sound designer to make the game feel "alive".
Wrote "lore segments' along with a team member and added them as narrative collectibles in the game.
